The available algorithms are as follows:Ĭompact - Moves files to the beginning of the volume without organizing them so you may repartition or resize the drive. This is usually because you have selected to use something besides "Quick" defragmentation on the boot drive. If the button is red, you will not be able to use the selected algorithm on the drive. To defragment or optimize a drive, just select it in the "Volumes" tray, select the optimization algorithm, and click the green "Go" button. The encircled regeions represent areas that are part of the same fragmented file. iDefrag's window is simple and straightforward. The program features a simple interface that shows a block-by-block layout of files on the drive (very common for optimization and defragmentation programs), along with statistics sections for the individual files and the volumes as a whole which give a large amount of information despite their simplicity. Over the years it has become a reputable and complete option for people wanting to defragment and optimize their hard drives. Conversely, iDefrag is a small utility with the single purpose of running drive defragmentation and optimization, and does this job quite well. Took so long because the people I record with (my 4 brothers) are in different states - we get together for a week only every year or two to work on each of our songs. While there are a number of utilities that will perform drive defragmentation and optimization, this option is usually included as a small side-feature along with a slew of other drive-related functions. I could send you a link if you wanted to hear it. My song is a 4-minute song of a couple growing into a family with the birth of their first child. None of the tracks were in groups (I had to look that up), I had no unused channels, I tried clicking all mute and solo buttons on/off, and looked for solo-safe, all to no avail.

I am an engineer at heart and like to tidy things up, but it looks like I will just have to let this go. I bounced all the MIDI to audio a long time ago, and the Garritan strings yesterday. So I am grateful the 35-track song made the trip without major loss along the way. Looking back, I think I originally recorded this song in Logic 2.5, but most overdubs were in more recent versions. Thanks for the ideas, "inquiry" I see you do a lot of posting - thanks for helping out the community. There is unfortunately no way to copy multiple tracks + regions + track automation to a new song file - something that would be excellent in general.īTW is your masterpiece is a 4-hour symphony, or 30-second whirring sound with clunk at the end? Is there any reason you can't just use the slow-solo preference (which is good to use in general anyway to save CPU)?īut you might try looking to see if any tracks are in groups which could be behaving weirdly, and go through the mixer and delete any unused channels, manually click on/off all mute and solo buttons, look for solo buttons appearing as "solo safe" when something else is soloed (look that up in the manual). With such an ancient file, ported forward through multiple versions, there is definitely going to be the potential for corruption and incompatibilities. Well Doug I would really just be glad that the entire file isn't corrupted (and definitely make a back up copy of its current working state, and bounce individual tracks to audio for archival purposes). Just for kicks, I tried switching to built-in audio and that doesn't fix it.

2% fragmented, catalog is 47% fragmented, free space is 81% fragmented. KontactPlayer2 has the latest version (2.2.4). The only other apps running are Safari (just to post this topic), Stickies, QuickSilver and DragThing.

I'm thinking it might be CPU overload issue. This song does use Garritan strings on four tracks. I am getting the CPU message "Disk is too slow or system overload" every couple of minutes. So it's odd that the "Fast" solo track button doesn't work only on this song. That works, I surmise, because the "S" button automatically turns on and the regions are automatically selected. The "S" solo button to the right of the transport works fine to solo selected regions.īut solo track buttons work fine when I change the above preference to "CPU-Saving" (tooltip says "Mute and Solo states can be independent on Tracks and Channel Strips"). The setting Preferences > Audio > General > Track Mute/Solo set to "Fast".

This happens for both software instrument and audio tracks. Recently, when I press any track solo button, the entire song mutes and there is no audible sound from that track. I have a Logic song, Together, I've been working on for about 6 years (now in Logic 8.0.2) - its solo buttons have always worked fine.
